Wow, this is a GREAT week! The show with DALA was spectacular! I will try to post some video if I can figure out how. In the meantime, a wonderful regular live music supporter, Clayton Berg took some lovely pictures of the performance, as seen above. I am honored that Dala love to play here at the cafe, as mentioned in their blog : )
Nice, Nice, Very Nice; that is the name of Dan Mangan’s newest album... one that has brought the artist much recognition this year as he has become the darling of the CBC, has made the covers of many papers, has toured an amazing number of dates, won awards such as VergeXM “Best Artist”, toured Europe and Australia AND he is returning on a short tour to play for you, Canmore! That’s right, this Wednesday, February 3rd, you could get a glimpse of what makes this musician unique. Lyrics that are meant to be heard, and a very distinct and passionate...or shall I say raw voice to pull it all off. Check out the video above of his last show (and the nice props at the end... blush : ) I love how quiet the audience is (always!) that you can hear tea cups being put down! That, my friends is why musicians love to play at the communitea cafe! I expect that the cafe will be totally packed for his return given that most of his shows sell out in the cities. Check out his music and website here.
If I had to pick a MUST SEE SHOW this February between Matt Andersen, Lester Quitzau, Dan Mangan, David Myles (as a trio!) , C.R. Avery, and CD releases for The Wooden Sky, Yukon Blonde, or Brasstronaut... I am not sure I could go wrong saying any of them! That just attests to the AMAZING quality of music that we are getting on our stage. All will be very different and awesome in their own right. Matt Andersen will return to play his first show since winning and International Blues award in Memphis for two sold out shows. We are truly honored! Canmore you are very lucky to see this guy up close and personal AND for the lowest ticket price on his tour! Almost half the cost of seeing him in Calgary at the Epcor Center. I would bet our couches are more comfortable... that is if you come early enough to get one.
I have heard comments/ concerns that our shows have gone up in price, and I can really understand where people are coming from, but the truth is the caliber of artist that we are booking is higher, and hence the ticket price must match to bring them to Canmore. On the other hand I have also made a point to book shows in the $10/ $12 range too. One thing is for sure, we TOTALLY GUARANTEE the quality of the musicians and if you pay your hard earned money and attend a show that you are not enjoying, we will happily refund your money. Maybe you took a chance and came out to a show to discover you don’t like the style of music, no biggie, just let us know.
Thanks again for all of your support. Hope you enjoy all that is happening this February in Canmore! I am certainly excited.
